Not enough riders

Hello riders,
It is with a heavy heart that I realize there are not enough riders to make this event happen. I had 12 registered riders, no where near enough competition to make a "real" event. I'm not sure what happened this year. Economy, racer schedules, not enough advertising, etc ?

We will be changing a lot for next year, in hopes that this isn't the death of our series. Please watch for us next year, it will be as good as our first year!

I will ride "the course" at 11am, if anyone is interested in joining me. Meet me at the entrance parking lot just outside the gate.

We're entering the final stretch of our online registration for the third annual Lost in the Woods MTB race at Anderson Lake on August 21st.

We still need more racers to make the event happen! Please help us out and get your paperwork and money in so that we can adequately prepare for our event. Pre-registration deadline of August 5th. Let's make this event happen!!!!

We are canceling the Gibbs Lake July 17th event due to low pre-registered riders.

Lost in the Woods Mountain Bike Races are family friendly "out there because we love to be out there" races on the Olympic Peninsula. There will be prizes for the top three placements in all categories. Awards will follow last racer in from each category.

Pre-registration price varies based on class entered: between $10-25. Register online at Bikereg.com. Mail or deliver your completed forms to The Broken Spoke, 835 Water Street, Port Townsend, WA 98368.

Welcome 2011 Racers!

Lost in the Woods Mountain Bike Races are family friendly "out there because we love to be out there" races on the Olympic Peninsula.

There will be prizes for the top three placements in all categories. Awards will follow last racer in from each category.

There will be after race food for purchase ahead of time from Bub's Tacos at $6.00/per Burrito. These will be delivered at high noon. If you would like anything else off their menu please contact us via e-mail.

Beer garden will be available after racing with a suggested $5.00 donation to Quimper Trails Association.

For 2011, we will have a two races:
The first race at Gibbs Lake County Park on July 17th
The second race at Anderson Lake State Park on August 21st.

Lots of work has been put into the trails in the last two weeks out at Anderson Lake State Park in preparation for the up coming race on September 19th. We hope that all you readers have gotten your registration in because you save a bit of money by paying early.

Times will be fast so bring your sprinting legs you are going to need it. And for those of you in the Sport category, you get to chase down our Jefferson County Sheriff and make him feel like he eats too many doughnuts.

Hello Gibbs Lake racers!
We're stoked that race weekend is finally here. The event will be happening rain or shine! We've had a few questions floating our way from BikeReg pointing out that preregistration online has now closed. That's correct. You can STILL REGISTER THE DAY OF THE EVENT. Registration opens at 8am on Sunday, race morning.

Race start times are listed under the Gibbs Lake section of our website.

We are a week out from the race and the Course is now buffed out. The marking will be up on Wednesday this week. The conditions couldn't be better. Don't forget to preregister!

Quimper Trails Association ( QTA ) is the local mountain biker's trail building and maintenance group for trails at Gibbs Lake County Park and Anderson Lake State Park. Lost in the Woods fully supports QTA's efforts and will be donating $2 of every registration towards all the work they do!

Roughly speaking, each "lap" is 5 miles long. The course is well laid out, and you can choose to ride a 5, 15 or 20 mile course.

*This means you can register for:

Expert Womens 20 miles
Expert Mens 20 miles

Hello racers and followers,

I have been busy getting the race waivers, registration forms and insurance lined up for our two races this season. I am almost finished with mapping the course and choosing start times.
Anderson Lake (sept 19) will have three divisions and an excellent course. Soon, I will post the race map.
Gibbs Lake is taking a little longer to organize but it will happen just as well.

Now that I can entered the new realm of making connections with mountain bikers, I want to welcome everyone.
My friend introduced me to mtbwashington.com a new website that's all for us and our cyclist friends. Check it out, they might be a new connection for you.

RACE NEWS:
Still putting together the flier and the logo for this year's race. We will have a family lap, mens and womens classes, and a beer garden. We're still aiming for low-key and a fun race.

I just love the new full service bicycle shop in Port Townsend, WA.

Hello Everyone~

Thanks to all that came out for the race on Sunday. I am already looking forward to the next race to come. I am sure most of you are as well. Thanks to a few photographers on the course we have so many photos to go through so stay tuned.

To all those who plan to drink said fabulous beer, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring your own glass-mug-other beverage container to help us cut down on waste. Think green and bring your own cup.

What everyone has been waiting for.

So I have been asked over and over so here it is.

Orange is the Family ride.
Red everyone will ride to spread out the field.
Blue is riden the number of times designated by the group you are racing with 1,2,or 3 laps.

I also want to thank the Jeferson County Sheriff's department for providing medical assistance and course marshals on the course. Thank you to the Port Townsend Fire and Ambulance Squad who will be on call race day.

We also need some more people to volunteer to help out on the course. So if you are coming with a racer please stop by the registration tent to let me know, or Contact me at PT Cyclery 360-385-6470.

To start this off, we do appreciate all of the sponsors of the race. We are looking for individuals willing to sponsor or volunteer the day of the race. If you are someone coming with a racer and would be willing to help out, please let me know by dropping me a line. Thank you in advance for your support and helping to make the Lost in the Woods a success!

Now on to more important business Port Townsend Brewing has Sponsored the race in the form of a keg of frosty cold ones. To help reduce waist, if you intend on partaking in a beverage please bring a Pint Glass.

On the same note of keeping things clean. The park rules state "Pack it in Pack it out" please keep this in mind when planning for the big day.

For those who might be driving from a far... Camping arrangements are under way for the night before but not finalized. Fingers crossed, this should be a good time for all.

Race day is coming!

Welcome everyone to the first annual Halloween Lost in the Woods cross country mountain bike race. Below you will find the registration and waiver forms for the event. Pre-registration begins today through the 1st of October. Please do not mail forms after the first or they might not make it in time for race day. There will be open registration the day of event... you just might not get your t-shirt in the right size. All forms must be completed and signed by race day.

Here is a basic run down of the event schedule.

October 11, 2009

Schedule of events:
8:30am - registration/check in starts
10:00 - Family race
11:00 - First race
following waves begin in 15 minute intervals.
3:00 - Prizes and awards
All Day - community mingling and local food/drink options

Waiver Form

$25 registration fee. Free t-shirt for first 25 participants or if you are wearing a costume the day of the event. $5 reimbursement for wearing a Halloween costume day of race. Capes and boas not allowed. $2 of every entry fee goes to Quimper Trails Association.

We look forward to seeing you all there and having a safe and fun race for everyone.
